How to Use the Urine Bag
Connect the Urine Bag: Securely connect the threaded joint of the urine pipe to the urine collection bag. Ensure the connection is tight to prevent any urine leakage.
Hanging the Urine Bag: Suspend the urine collection bag under the bed or in another position below bladder level using a hanging nylon rope or another holding device.
Open the Urination Switch: Activate the urination switch on the urine collection bag to allow urine to flow smoothly into the bag.
Discharging the Urine: Once the urine bag is full, wash your hands thoroughly. Clean the mouth of the urine bag with an alcohol cotton ball before opening it to discharge urine. After emptying, close the mouth of the urine bag and clean it again with an alcohol cotton ball to prevent infection.
Precautions for Using Urine Bags
Keep the Urine Bag Below Bladder Level:Ensure the urine bag remains below bladder level at all times to prevent urine reflux and minimize infection risks.
Increase Your Water Intake:It is recommended to drink more than 1500ml of water daily to promote urine production and discharge, helping to reduce the risk of infection and blockage.
Maintain Local Cleanliness: Daily cleaning and disinfection of the urethral opening and surrounding areas with normal saline and iodophor is essential to keep the area clean and dry, thereby reducing bacterial growth.
Regularly Change the Urine Bag:Change the urine bag regularly as per its material and the doctor's advice to prevent bacterial growth and infections.
Monitor Urine Volume:If the urine bag contains more than 700ml of urine, it should be emptied promptly to prevent discomfort or infection.
Fix the Urine Bag Properly:Ensure the urine bag is fixed properly to prevent excessive pulling or twisting, which can damage the urethral mucosa.
Observe Body Reactions:Monitor for any body reactions, such as pain at the urethral opening, cloudy urine, or systemic fever. These symptoms may indicate an infection and require immediate medical attention.
